Pack Hike Description:
The altitude at the start is 8709'. We will follow the Maroon Creek Trail until it ends at the large parking lot that is the entrance to the Maroon Lake recreational area. The Maroon Creek trail follows the road and is a steady incline the entire way. It also follows a creek and in the morning will be shaded by the steep mountains. This trail also winds in and out of pine trees. The group will then follow Maroon Lake trail to the other end of the lake. This is a wide, flat path at the edge of the lake. We will be taking a loop trail, and the altitude peaks at 9750'. This trail also follows a stream, offering many opportunities for the dogs to take a dip in the cool water. The Falls Loop Trail brings the group back to the lake edge. From here, the hike retraces the trail back down the valley to the East Maroon Portal parking lot.
The total hike will be 9 miles and first climb 1000' then descend 1000'.
Dogs will be weighed in within 7 days of the event at a veterinary clinic of their own choosing, with a certificate from the veterinarian stating their weight.
Dog packs will be weighed by the event coordinator on a scale at the start of the event.
